Mukono District Leaders Monitor Water Projects to Ensure Improved Service Delivery.
Kimenyedde/Ntunda Sub-County, Mukono District:
A team from the Works, Water, and Natural Resources Committee of Mukono District Local Government, led by the Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Finance and Administration, Hon. Jorem Kabali Kimera has conducted a monitoring visit to assess the progress and functionality of key water supply projects within the district.
The monitoring exercise focused on two major water interventions: the Ntunda–Kyabazaala Piped Water Supply System and the newly constructed borehole in Kakakala Village, Kimenyedde Sub-County. The visit was part of the district’s ongoing efforts to improve water accessibility and ensure accountability in the implementation of government-funded projects.
Speaking during the field visit, Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa emphasized the district’s commitment to increasing access to clean and safe water for all communities, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas. “Access to clean water is not a privilegeit is a right. As leaders, we are duty-bound to monitor and ensure that these projects serve the people as intended,” he said.
Technical staff from the Water Department explained the scope and progress of each project. The Ntunda–Kyabazaala piped water system, once fully operational, is expected to supply hundreds of households with reliable clean water, drastically reducing the burden on women and children who often trek long distances in search of water.
In Kakakala Village in Kimenyedde Sub County, community members expressed gratitude for the newly constructed borehole, noting that it will transform their daily lives. “Before this borehole, we relied on seasonal water sources that were unsafe and far. Now we have clean water within reach,” said a local resident.
The monitoring team inspected the quality of works, the technical layout, and community feedback, noting both achievements and areas needing improvement. Hon. Jorem Kabali Kimera urged contractors to maintain quality and work within the expected timelines. “We are not just inspecting—this is about ensuring that government resources truly change lives,” he added.
The District Water Office pledged to continue regular supervision and maintenance to guarantee the sustainability of the projects. Members of the Works, Water, and Natural Resources Committee reaffirmed their dedication to holding service providers accountable and called for increased community ownership of water facilities.
